Monday is a holiday. The calendar I have hanging up labels it as Columbus Day.
Some people call it Indiginous People Day which is actually fine by me because Columbus was lost. He thought he was in India.
I always tellpeople that if Columbus thought he was in Manila that as kids we'd have played Cowboys and Filipinos which actually has a nice ring to it.
A can picture it in an old black and white movie.
The settlers in the wagon train are plodding along. The sharp-eyed wagon master sees something going on up along the ridge.
"Filipinos!" he shouts. "Draw the wagons up into a circle!"
Needless to say, the US Cavalry would come boiling over the hill to the rescue but I digress....
Still, the fact remains is we have a holiday named after a brutal murderer that got lost.
Columbus was responsible for at least 3 to 8 million deaths. So I wonder if Hitler decided to follow in his footsteps? We were never taught in school of his atrocities. We should take the holiday off the calendar, and take down all the statues of Christopher Columbus. Some of the protesters had that one right. sr
