You probably don't know this but our conversation triggered a bunch of memories from a chaotic and also tumultous past. I took the road less traveled and as an old man I'm glad I did it my way.
From the time I got out of the army until my late 30s everything was completely chaotic in my life. I had little if any real stability in my life until I was about 38 and I was 40 when I married. Until I started to stablize at about 38 life was somewhat of an interesting mess.
Since about six months before I retired every now and then something triggers memories that I had not thought about in decades. I was warned about this possibly happening by another retiree a while before I retired and sure enough he was right. He explained to me that when responsibilities drop off near retirement forgotten memories seem to surface. This can be triggered by just about anything. Apparently something you said opened the gates because after our brief chat I went back inside and sat there and laughed and cried for an hour at the humor and pathos of life.
Thank you.
