15 August and foggy as hell

which I find interesting.

I wonder what kind of hint Mother Nature is trying to give us.

The swelling from the yellowjacket stings has subsided and I am back to normal.

I think that I am going to write anther post about one or more people I have met in my travels. The tumultuous years the army and between settling down a bit are coming back to me.

I might post a link later on.

As usual, we shall see what we shall see.

I'm in a blah mood today

I think I'll goof off elsewhere.
=================================

It's later. I think i'll post.

I'm getting sick and tired of all this crap about a decoy plane, the President being smuggled into another plane in a food truck.

If if happened as it was reported by leftist alarmists then it' NOT Trump's doing. He actually has no say in the matter whatsoever.

The Secret Service has the final say.

On 9-11 when Bush wanted Air Force One to return to Washington DC he was overruled by the Secret Service.

The Secret Service has the final say in Presidential security.

Incidentally they are not there to protect Donald Trump.

They are there to protect the President of the United States.

I can't figure out what has been triggering memories since just before I retired.

It happens at odd times and every now and again I thing I am going to write them down.

Here's one.

God! It's the 12th and the month has just flown by.

The older I get the faster things fly by.

Yesterday I ran over a yellowjackets nest and there must have been a huge high cover air support because I got stung at least 8 times.

A Google search recommended medical attention for seniors and I took the advice. Last year when I got hit by four of the little bastards I toughed it out for about 3 or 4 days.

This was between 8 or ten so I decided to follow the Old Man route and get checked.

I blew up so bad I hit the clinic and the NP there tightened me right up. After I loaded up on the meds she gave me the swelling stopped and has started to subside. I've got a couple days more worth of pills to take so I'll follow the directions.

Needless to say, they were squatters and were  evicted when two quarts of gasoline and a match hit their underground nest an hour later after they settled down.

I just read where some real porker in Michigan sued Lyft because the driver refused to let her

the car for fear of damaging the suspension and tires.

Apparently Michigan has a weight discrimination law of some sort.
 which is bull$hit.

Lyft supposedly settled out of court for an undisclosed sum which is even more bull$hit. It should not even have been able to be brought to court. The woman was just pain too heavy to ride in a small car. She should have ordered a big limo or something along those lines.  Maybe even a dump truck with a seat belt in the bed.

It's not the Lyft driver's fault that the rapper is too fat to fit into their car safely.

While we're at it, airlines should make people that are too big buy two seats. For one thing it's rude to the people that have to sit beside them. Very large people generally take up all of their own seat and much seat of the person net to them and it makes other people's flights miserable.

When I was still working on the west coast one time I found my aisle seat occupied by a very obese woman. Her ticket was for the middle seat and she took it upon herself to take mine because she likely couldn't shuffle her way into the middle seat.

About a quarter of her was oozing over into the middle seat and another quarter was oozing into the aisle.

I just kept walking to the back of the plane and told the attendant. She took one look at the situation and told me to standby. She said the flight wasn't completely full and she'd find me another seat if that was OK. It certainly was.

When things tapered off she took me up several aisles and parked me in a better seat than I had paid for. The overheads were full so she took my carry-on and parked it in the front somewhere and told me to pick it up on the way out. I figure I had gotten damned lucky.

She also quietly agreed that people like that should have to pay for two seats.

Of course I will defend the right of people to get as big and fat as they want but they damned well have to be willing to take the consequences of them doing so.

Timmy never did fall down a well

I was channel surfing and decided to check out the Lassie Channel. Yes. There really is a Lassie channel on Samsung smart TVs.

I decided to check and see if the Timmy fell down the well episode was going to play anytime in the near future so I Googled "Lassie episode Timmy falls in the well":

I was surprised to find out there is no such episode and it's an urban myth.

I'll be damned. I thought I had seen that episode when I was about seven or eight.

Must be my dim memory remembered some episode where a well was involved.

Huh.

-----------------------------------------

I decided to watch an episode of Lassie and remembered it as good entertainment for small children which was the targeted audience. .

Today as an older person it does seem to be a bit hokey by today's standards but I'm sure something similar today would be rather refreshing

For parents that are trying to raise kids in this day and age that are tired of having a constant battle with trying to keep drag queens out of the schools etc. It would be a joy to find kids watching something that wholesome.

It's a shame what we have let ourselves become.

I read an article about re-renaming schools in Virginia

after Confederate generals. The wailing and gnashing of teeth over nothing is epic.

The money spent of renaming the schools could easily be spent on teaching kids to actually read or learn to count.
As usual, this is a case of 'want something to cry about? I'll GIVE you something to cry about'.

Name schools after pedophiles, serial killers and other sickies.

Here's a few samples:

Charles Manson High School

Jeffery Dahmer Middle School

Jack the Ripper Elementary School.

Picture some young mother telling someone "Timmy starts Jack the Ripper this September."

It would be a pretty good deal because everyone would be equally offended and have something to complain about.

The bath/shower spout. Change for the sake of change.

When I rebuilt the bathroom after the fire the other half wanted to install a new and improved tub/shower spout. Instead of the little gate handle you pull up yo pull the ttip of the spout down.

That way you don't have to look at 'the ugly gate handle'.

Oh.

It's more trouble than lifting the gate handle and nobody ever looks at a tub spout to begin with.

Change for the sake of change.

Sometimes it's best to just keep it simple.

Possible road trip.

for a possible funeral.

I don't like the sound of this one.

An old friend with a brain tumor.

Hopefully I can connect while she is still alive and say good bye.

Who dunnit? Good one. Joke's on me.

Lately I have treated 'final expense' insurance spam calls by asking them to recommend me a taxidermist so my nephew can use me for a living room decoration after I am dead and gone.

I've mentioned this and someone decided to prank me. He got someone who had a voice I could not recognize call me and say, "This is Bob from Bob's taxidermy and an insurance company told me to call you regarding your final plans."

It took me about a half second to figure it out and all I had to say was "Good one.''

The trick is to get past the AI voice and talk to a 'stuporvisor'. Then the fun begins.

When I hear that I turn on my recorder and about half of the time they hang up.

One of the wildest pranks I ever saw

was the time someone rigged an artillery simulator to go off in the bed of someone's pickup at a random time while the owner was driving.

The driver had just cleared post when the damned thing went off. Fortunately he didn't have an accident as a result of this. I imagine he knew was coming when the damned thing started whistling. It's a very distinctive sound.

It happened to one of the guys in our sister battalion but it was so good of a prank that word of it spread fast.

Needless to say when word got around the officers raised hell about that one and CID got involved. CID never solved it but people were smart enough to steer clear of doing it again.

To Cory Booker.

Which is it, Congressman Booker? Inquiring minds want to know.

So what is it, Congressman?

This is routine maintenance. The statues were gifted to us in the 50s by Italy. The have to be maintained and were last regilded in 1971.

That was 55 years ago. The maintenance is LONG
 past overdue.

Which leads me as to what your post is all about.

A. Either you didn't do your homework which seems to me to be a regular thing with you.

OR

B. You are simply trying to twist a story to smear a sitting president.

OR

C. You're just plain stupid.

Personally I think it's a combination of all three. I don't think you understand maintenance. It is taking care of something after it has been created. An example of this might be something like an oil change to insure the engine gets clean oil and runs longer and smoother. It saves money in the long run.

His other faults notwithstanding, President Trump understands building AND maintenance. He's currently performing a lot of long overdue maintenance in Washington DC now because many past presidents have not bothered to and the Capitol is getting a little seedy.

On the other hand, I can understand that you don't really understand maintenance because you are a senator from New Jersey which is pretty much a dump from what I've seen of it over the years.

So what is it? A, B or C?

Personally I think it is a combination of all three but I would love to know. Fess up, please.

Oh and please spare me the deflective bull$hit rhetoric. For once in your life I want a straight, honest answer. I know that's a LOT to ask for but you can try.

Cars. One of the things I wished I had done

was keep better vehicle maintenance records so I could write something accurate about the pickups I have owned over the years.

I see a lot of people simply figure the costs as being the payment, insurance and the gas they use. There's more.

Back in Y2K I mentally pulled a figure out of my hat when I bought the Silver Bullet, a silver Tacoma NIB. I figured that it was going to cost me about $100/month over time to run it after payments, gas and insurance.

The $100 figure proved to be too high at the time because in 2009 Toyota bought it back when the frame rusted out and gave me almost $8K for it. Having spent $11K for it this became the best deal on reliable transportation I ever got. I think I had rolled 180K miles on it when they repurchased it from  me but I digress.

Still, even though I had estimated too high it gave me a nice slice for what to most people would have been the down payment. Instead it gave me a slice toward the total amount I paid for the truck because I paid in cash. Either way I was ahead. I bought another Tacoma which is clost to 18 years old and most likely will run to the end of my days because I have taken care of it.

You really can't go wrong overestimating an expense. You get the unspent money back, usually with interest.

Part of what keeps The Poors poor is they don't think about the total cost of something. All they seem to think is buying the biggest car they think they can afford. Payment and insurance and that's it. They forget that the car must be taken care of.

Of course they cheap out on keeping up on maintenance  and the car wears out a lot faster and requires more repairs over time. I was a lot like this early on but I stopped acting poor and as a result I got 'rich', meaning life got a lot better for me.

The rich buy a solid product (of every kind), maintain it and keep it until it wears out. They don't follow fads. The follow quality. In the long run cheaping out is the most expensive way to go.

Better to buy a solid plain jane and take care of it than to buy something fancy and let it go.

I kind of wish I had kept careful records to prove my point.

Ahh, yes. I added to the switchblade collection.

My collection of switchblade knives grew by one because I just bought another to add to it. There's now 16 in the drawer and a few more floating around the house in locations I am likely to be opening mail.

An Old School West Side Story switchblade makes a pretty good letter opener.

This year's model is a Shark's model, Nando approved. Straight out of Hollywood.

PA legalized them a couple of years ago and when it hit Nextdoor and the Karens I predicted that there would not be a whole lot of young people dancing around to Leonard Bernstein music and carving each other up.

So far I have not heard of a single case of this although I'd be surprised to hear it hasn't happened in Philly a time or two. But it was happening anyway, legal or not.

Mamdani's amazing 30% off grocery store.

regular supermarkets run on a 1 to 3% profit margin.

Where's the money come from to make up got the 30% off?

There's a subsidy of some sort to make it work and the taxpayer foots the bill.

The end result is supposedly that it will save the average family about a grand.

My guess is that the working stiffs will have taxes go up to compensate for this. As usual the unemployed, sick, lame and lazy will pay nothing (as usual) and that will be that.

Those that get higher taxes probably won't realize that they are paying for Mamdani's wonderful store.

Needless to say, they will have to shuffle unseen monies into it to compensate for theft, robberies and vandalism. Then again they may turn the NYPD loose on shoplifters unlike what they do to private enterprise stores.

Meanwhile private grocers will take a hit and some will fold.

Here's what ya do over reariations for slavery. A trip to the men's room.

Offer $100K cash, payable at the American Embassy in Somalia upon turning in one's passport.

Needless to say, the recipient will be immediately mugged upon leaving the embassy because word will immediately get out to the locals.

Word will get back to the States that someone's Uncle Bob is stuck in Somalia penniless and can't get back to the States ever.

Then the rest of us can sit back and watch the outrage as the families screech that the government has to let Uncle Bob come back home again.

Uncle Sam could refuse until the money got paid back and the GoFundMe requests would pop up as people try to raise funds to pay the money back and have Uncle Bob's passport reissued.

Betcha a lot of people will think twice about asking for reparations.

==========================

The other day I went to pee in a convenience store.

When I walked into the men's room there was an apparition of some sort, It appeared to be a guy that needed a shave wearing a skirt and woman's makeup.

I guess he saw the surprised WTF look on my face and braced for my reaction.

I walked over to the urinal and as I unzipped I said, "That's OK. I identify as a cat and I have to use the men's room because the store doesn't have a litterbox." Then I peed, zipped up and walked out shaking my head.

Looking back on it I suppose it was a good thing he used the men's room because if he was going into the ladies room when someone's daughter or granddaughter was in it he probably would have gotten his ass kicked.

============================

As I write this I recall that in Tony's Bar in Kodiak the lady's room would occasionally become unusable for one reason or another and they simply wandered into the men's room and nobody batted an eyelash.

The women would just walk past the row of urinals and use one of the stalls.

No biggie.

So and so, American Socialite.

What does a socialite actually do?

Where does one go to school to become a socialite? Can you go to socialite school on a GI Bill?

What's the job pay?

From what I can see it's a good gig if you can get the job.
