Something came up and it occurred to me

that during my lifetime there were still a few surviving Civil War veterans.

I do remember a few Spanish American war vets and quite few WW1 veterans.

Of course, my parents were part of the WW2 generation.

Still, it shows we are not all that far removed from the Civil War as we think. In my lifetime I could have shaken the hand of a Civil War vet.
