Wyatt Earp and company
In the background there is an old rerun playing on the tube.
It's 'The life and legend of Wyatt Earp'.
He is said to be brave, courageous and bold, and one of the good guys. Yeah, some good guy.
Truth is he was pretty much of a criminal himself. He was a wanderer, wandering from boom town to boom town in a quest to make a fast and easy buck.
Back in the days of the Wild West it was common practice in growing towns to simply hire a thumper to keep the peace. Earp fit this picture to a T.
I'm sure that as a lawman he took advantage of his position to shake down a few businesses and or overlook some shady dealings. If one of the locals cheated some transient cowboy, then nobody really cared. If Earp took a cut of a gambling operation that was cheating transients, then nobody cared.
Earp was probably smart enough not to permit the locals to be cheated or robbed and that's probably why he'd get hired.
Why the Hollywood people made him look so upstanding and wholesome is beyond me.
