I just watched a Law & Order rerun that made sense.

Of course it was a murder case which means little if anything. Most of them are.

Truth is it was pretty much background so I didn't suck in most of the details. Still the gist of it was some fairly bright black kid did rather well in an inner city high school and the local neighborhood activist pulled strings and pressured the kid to go to a very challenging college and 'become part of the neighborhood future'.

The sad part was that the kid didn't have the background and maybe should have gotten his feet wet at a community college. The pressure put on the kid was too much. His high school diploma wasn't really worth the paper it is printed on which was entirely not the kid's fault. The high school system sucked.

Expect more of this in Oregon and it will likely move its way east.

The governor of Oregon just signed a bill stating that for the upcoming school year students will no longer have to prove mastery of reading, writing and math through standardized tests to graduate.

I read that the governor signed this to make things easy for people of color. If so that's racist. It's probably going to backfire because it means a LOT of those diplomas are going to be rather worthless on the job market.

The SATs will be interesting for those that are interested in college.
