should I get new truck?
I really don't want one and the one I have is comfortable enough. I like it and it does everything I want it to. It's as comfortable as the well worn Topsiders on my feet. It is what it is.
Look at me and figure out who I am. I am an old guy living out my life with things I have grown comfortable with. Look at my vehicles. I own a 2009 Tacoma, basic non extended pickup and a 1991 Mazda Miata.
Both of these fit me to a T.
Old School.
What is interesting to note is the local car lot has a 2011 low mileage duplicate of my pickup for $15K and in the back of my head I would actually consider paying for it if the one I have $hits the bed.
I like simple machinery and over the past ump-teen years have seen only two new car features that interest me, heads up GPS and backup cameras. I put an aftermarket backup camera in my 2009 ride.
Anyway, the power steering went on me and I have to get it fixed.
Years ago when I first got the damned thing someone asked me about why I didn't get all the cool features, the bright, shiny objects.
"Because if you don't have them they can't break and have to be fixed," I replied.
He was kind of stunned for a few seconds and admitted "There's something to be said for that."
I suppose if the truck came with manual steering I would not be getting it fixed. A Tacoma is a lightweight truck and really doesn't need power steering. It's just one of those things carmakers have sold for so long that most people would not know what to do without it.
What do you do without it?
You simply drive it the same way you do with power steering. The manual steering box ratios are a little different which tends to compensate.
