Looks like Pelosi got her weapons bill through the House.

which means it has to go through the Senate and if it does Biden will sign it and it will become the Law of the Land which I will break as I break a lot of other laws on a routine basis.

There have been numerous times in my life I have had either Karen or Joe Citizen inform me that what I was doing was AGAINST THE LAW only to have me explain that I am a criminal and the law doesn't apply to me because as a criminal it is my job to break whatever laws I see fit.

I have had a couple people go off on me for saying that and I generally wait a while and then say, "I'm running a little short of cash. What bank do you keep your money in?" Settles them right down.

I don't rob banks, I don't hurt people needlessly, I'm kind to the elderly. I don't roar through residential neighborhoods as fast as I can. I don't generally buy alcohol for minors because the end result is kids do dopey things when they get a snootful. I have and probably will continue to pick up a six-pack for a reasonably intelligent US Service man, though, especially if he has any kind of a combat deployment under his belt. If he's mature enough to go to war he's mature enough to have a cold beer.

As for parking, I don't block people's driveways or traffic because it's a doltish thing to do. However there have been times I have parked illegally on purpose because it was cheaper. When someone wants fifteen scoots for a legal space and a parking ticket is only ten then do the math.

I don't do drugs because it's stupid. If I wanted to I would. I don't own a mechine gun simply because I don't want one because they're too expensive to feed. Besides, only accurate rifles interest me. I'm a target shooter.

To put it in a small box, I live my life the way I see fit taking care to look out for the other guy. I pretty much give the world what's theirs and take what's mine.

Let's face it, laws are created for stupid, greedy and dishonest people. If everyone acted responsibly we wouldn't need them. While I have had my moments, I've pretty much gone through life without bothering to check and see if something is legal or not. If it's right I do it, if it's wrong I don't. I've never had any real problems with the law.

One thing, though. I'm a strict Constitutionalist. Nancy's bill doesn't pass muster with the Bill of Rights so that's just one more reason to ignore it. 



Always remember that Anne Frank was hidden by outlaws and ratted out by law abiding citizens. Just because something is legal doesn't make it right and just because somethiing is illegal doesn't make it wrong.

As for government? I seriously consider government a necessary evil that should only exist to do the things for people that they can not do by themselves. 

As for elected officials? They are not my leaders. I am my own leader. elected officials are supposed to be my representatives. When they start thinking they are there to tell me what to do it's time to send them packing. Either that or ignore them.

The legitimate object of government, is to do for a community of people, whatever they need to have done, but can not do, at all, or can not, so well do, for themselves—in their separate, and individual capacities. In all that the people can individually do as well for themselves, government ought not to interfere....Abraham Lincoln.

I don't think they are doing a very good job.

Right after I moved into my house about 30 years ago

Some real estate agents stopped to take comparable listings pictures.

My wife didn't know what was going on and she told me people had been stopping by, taking pictures and driving off. I told her I had no clue as to what was happening and why.

She said she was pretty uncomfortable with it and after she described it, so was I.

Anyway I was home, fresh off of a trip and in the garage with the door open when a realator came by to snap pictures. Of course I didn't know she was a realtor.

I came flying out of the garage and shouted "FREEZE. If you don't you will get hurt!"

She went into shock and froze. I demanded to know what was going on and she started babbling that she was a realtor and taking pictures for comparable listings and so on. She was pretty shaken.

"For Pete's sake," I shot back. "Why don't you people tell buyers that other realtors are going to drop by after they buy a house? You scared the hell out of my wife and to tell you the truth I wanted to know what was going on, also. Now take your damned pictures and go in peace."

I reported it to my wife and she was greatly relieved.

Still, at least for first time buyers, realtors ought to at least give people a heads-up. We had moved from Alaska and had no clue as to how local real estate people worked.

It looks like maybe today life will get civilized again.

Long story, no details but I think they are going to get the power up and running again which will be good news.

In other news it looks like probably chili for lunch whic is a good deal.

Oh, hell. Why not. I still have battery left.

One of the things that happened is that I had to deal with someone in a hurry when I was gassing my truck up. I had a spare 25 liters (about 6 gallons and I put the canon top of my tonneau cover, stuffed my syphon hose in it, put the other end in the tank and got it started. It's got a ball valve in it so no sucking is necessary.

Now the person that was with me said they were in a hurry and asked me if it would be faster just to use the can's spout. I replied that while it might be a little faster it would likely be a bit messier. 

He stod there somewhat impatiently and after a couple of minutes said something about how much time it was taking.

About that time the syphon started sucking air. I pulled it out of the can, screwed the lid on it and put it away and looked at the guy. "Le's go," I said.

The few extra seconds spent by syphoning were more more than made up for by the time saved on cleaning up the mess it was likely to have made using the spout AND I didn't have to bust my ass holding the can while it emptied.

All sorts of stuff going on

It's gonna be hit or miss for a while as internet access is going to be weird for a couple of weeks.

i'll also be pushed for time to post.As it stands now for at least the next two weeks I am living rough and will be posting under less than ideal conditions.

Sorry, no detials. Over the years I have had a'The Show Must Go On' attitude and I guess I still have it. One good difference, though. I don't have to rely on the touch pad anymore.

I have a wireless mouse which makes thinga a bit easier. I do have AC but it's in a fixed loaction and it serves only to keep the machine's battery up and running.  Fortunately the battery has a pretty good life expectency.

As for the internet, that's sketchy, too. I can walk to a free WiFi or I can use my cell phone for a limited amount. Still, I' veposted under worse conditions so I suppose it's not too bad.

I just briefly went through the owner's manual of the same truck I own but is much newer.

Back in the day the owner's manual showed you how to adjust the valves in the engine. Now they tell you not to drink the battery acid. That says something there.

What somewhat surprised me is that the instructions on the electronics manual is about as thick as the basic owner's manual. My vehicle had no electronics manual.

The updated Tacoma is a far more complex machine than mine. FAR more complex.

While I could easily hop into it and drive to New Mexico with it, there is just too much information being thrown at yu as you drive along our nation's highways and by byways. 

I've always driven simple machines and although the technology of the new cars out there is simply amazing, I see little need for it. I bet most people will never use half of it. 

I would be just as comfortable with my old '62 Dodge half ton stepside as I would a brand new off the showroom floor Tacoma for daily use.

Cars just seem to get more and more complex over time and I fail to see what good it does for the average Joe. 

One thing it certainly does is costs the buyer one hell of a lot more money. 

In the FWIW department the new one gets about the same gas mileage as my old one.

Just got back from Camp Perry

My plate was too full so I didn't have time to shoot. It was more of social call and even that wasn't much. The Marine rifle team had not shown up yet and I got to meet up with a couple of armorers and a couple pistoleros.

This year the team was able to only field what it legally has to and the consensus between many of us over the Marine team being so small this year is it's over money. I don't doubt it.

Tha Army Marksmanship Unit guys also agreed but the truth is the AMU guys don't know what hard times are. While they have been shuffled around a bit they still have money enough to put their people up in rooms off post somewhere.

The Marines (like always) stay on post because it's free.

Before 9-11 the Marines were really poor but after 9-11 somewhere they managed to get some funds and managed to get some decent equipment which they take good care of because they know they have to make it last.

I always called their team the Raggedy-assed Marines because they were generally scratching their asses financially.

In my formative years as a shooter the Marines, because they stayed on post were accessible and very approachable. They helped me out as a newbie and I'd toss them a case of suds in return.

This was my 25th year and I gave the beer to the armorers which I have been doing for the past few years. They share it with the team proper.

I went to Perry this year with an out of town friend. He showed up with a bottle of excellent Scotch and we only had a little taste because it was an early night as we had to get up early. I was up a little before 0400 and cooked a solid breakfast and we were off and running a little after 0500. The breakfast proved to be a smart move as we were running all over hell for the whole day.

I'm back after a long day of walking all over hell in the sun.

On top of that, when I got home and checked the mail there was a QSL card in the mailbox from a station I worked in Roi-Namur, and island in the Marshalls!

Well Perry wasn''t as good as usual, any day at Perry is a good one and topping it off with a rare DX QSL card makes it sweet.

There is some kind of cooking show on the tube in the background.

The woman doing the cooking has a very heavy Hispanic accent and I just had a thought.

Is that the way she sounds off of the set or is the accent for credibility that she's cooking a genuine Mexican dish?

Maybe when she's off set she sounds like a Joisey Goil. "Da conneh a toidy toid street an toid avenoo."

Who knows. Whatever, it's pretty decent background sound.

I'm now a professional.

As usual I am kind to the elderly and the day before yesterday at the market a little old lady asked me to reach up to get something for her. 

Needless to say, I was happy to do so and when I handed the item to her I said, "Here you go, young lady."

"Young lady?" she replied. "I haven't been called that in a LONG time! Thank you, you just made my whole day!"

Being the circus clown I am, I held out my hand, smiled and said, "That will be ten cents, please." and we both shared a laugh. I continued my shopping.

Fifteen or twenty minutes later we crossed paths again and she smiled at me, handed me a buck and told me to keep the change!

We both laughed again and I told her I was going to pin the buck to my board so I can see it often. I did just this when I got home. There is is, about 20 feet from me where I can see it from here.

The Piccolo bag of bull$hit has now officially turned a profit and I'm thinking I'm thinking of putting this act on the road!

I just told someone I had given their computer the Amish virus and got back a whole munch of moaning, wailing and gnashing of teeth.

He shot back asking me how to get rid of it and I explained that the Amish do not use computers the virus works on the honor system and told him he is supposed to delete all the files on his hard drive.

He stormed on that I'd never hear from him again.

Which is what I wanted to hear in the first place.

As usual, the weather is being a Murphy.

and as many of us know, Murphy was an optimist.

Yesterday was a day when I wanted to get the lawn mowed and as to be expected, it rained. I don't know when it is going to dry out but as I often say, we shall see what we shall see.

Yesterday I finished writing about getting started in my career. It's kind of a soggy saga because of all the things that led up to it. I didn't start sailing under documentation until I was 38 when happenstance got me hired on a tug.

As  kid I wanted to 'get my Z card and sail all over the world'.

Back in the day you couldn't just go to the Coast Guard and get one issued like you can today. You either needed experience or a 'letter of intent' to hire you.

At the time the unions were full of people, companies were hiring either out of the hall or only documented people. It was a Catch-22 for an inbreaker.

The master of a vessel outside of US waters could hire non documented US citizens to replace sick or injured crewmen, however. The way to go was to head on out to someplace like the Phillipines and wait until a ship came in needing someone. You would sail and upon completion of the vouage take your discharge paper to the Coasties and get issued your Z-card. If I recall correctly foreign sea time also counted so it didn't necessarily have to be a US flagged vessel.

When I was 38 I got lucky and was able to find a company suffering growing pains and internal chaos and get a letter of intent AND a job.

The 20 years laeading up to this were somewhat tumultous to say the least.

When I was a kid there was a show called 'The Millionaire'.

It was about some richer than God guy that you never actually saw that had a hobby of giving people a check for a million bucks. You never saw the actual guy, John Beresford Tipton.  You only saw his faithful assistant named Michael Anthony.

It was pretty good and I believe it ran between 1955 and 1960 and as a kid I saw some of the originals and later on some of the ones I missed when the series would occasional pop up as reruns.

I remember people that got the money sometimes did good things with it, a handful squandered it. SOme used it for good, others for bad. One guy used a part of it to chase down someone to seek revenge only to have the chase lead him to the grave of the person that injured him and another guy used it to buy a baseball team.

All in all it was a pretty good show.

Anyway, I am not John Bereford Tipton and I don't have a guy named Michael Anthony on my payroll and I ain't gonna come out of nowhere and give you a million bucks so I guess you better get your ass back to work like the rest of us.

TV hasn't really changed a whole lot since the 50s

Yeah, I know. It used to be in black and white and the photography sucked and so on. From a technology standpoint it's gotten better.

The entertainment value has gone downhill and so has the educational value. By the 60s it was referred to as a vast wasteland.

I wonder what to call it now.

Earlier this week I heard some pissed off woman mad at some guy that got the last 'on sale' whatever. She was ragging on him and he wasn't going to budge as well he should not have. I got tired of listening to her after about five seconds.

I looked at here ans said, "Hey, Lady! You DO  know the man you are abusing is carrying a concealed, loaded handgun, don't you?"

Her lips slammed shut. 

Between something like 1885 and 1920 the Iver Johnson company was responsible for creating what is often called the era of good manners.

Iver Johnson was the leading manufacturer of affordable, easily concealable handguns.

It's funny how people change their attitude when they discover that there could be consequences for their words and deeds.

Now another government hassle has begun

My Coast Guard physical. I just shot it into the National Maritime centar and we shall see what we shall see.

The last time I got a bunch of questions asked me and had to jump through a couple of hoops but all in all it wasn't too bad.

Back in the day it wasn't bad at all. A license renewal required an application and a letter of service. You signed a statement that you were physically fit to do the job.The process took a few minutes and was free.

Now I hear renewals are running about 90 days, cost about $135 and up.

Physicals require a ten page form to be filled out and if you had anything wrong with you it requires all sorts of doctor's statements etc etc. 

I would not be surprised to find out that the Navy's paperwork for a Top Gun aviator is less than the Coasties demand.

SOmeone asked me the time which in this day and age was a little odd


because everyone carrys cell phones.

"Fifteen fif...Quarter past three," I replied.

They asked me why my watch is set to a 24 hour format. I told them to look at my life.

Practically my entire life runs on a 24 hour format. At work all times are given in the 24 hour format. That covers over half of my life right off the bat.

I'm a ham radio operator and all ham radio is conducted on UTC (sometimes still referred to as Greenwich Mean Time) which is a 24 hour format. The bulk of my entire being runs on a 24 hour format.

When I lived in Alsaka during the summer I ran a 24 hour format because it was sometimes difficult to determine day from night. Try taking a late afternoon nap starting at maybe 5:30 and waking up at, say 7PM. You look at your watch and the sun is still very high and wonder if you are waking up from a nap or you slept on through and you're late for work. If your watch reads 1900 you know what's going on.

I admit I live in an entirely different world than most and have about all of my life. When someone commented on it I replied that the reason he has such a nice, clean life is because some of us do take a different path. When he said that he looked confused.

I just had a chat with one of the local kids about integrity.

and I have to admit that I was very pleased to find out that he knows that just because something is legal doesn't make it right. I was actually somewhat stunned to hear him also use Anne Frank as an example.

Too many poeple mistake integrity for blind obedience to the various rules and regulations laid out by the government. Many of these laws are pretty arbitrary. Personally when I decide as to if I am going to obey or break a law I look carefully at it and see if it makes sense or is too tyrannical for my taste.

It is good to see a younger person that is well on his way to being an outlaw.

The show must go on!


So it looks like I have to $hit another post and it was interrupted by breakfast and now I have to clean up this post because the cat crossed the keyboard a couple of times which seems to be routine around here.

I am still getting fallout from something I did about 60 years ago. I guess it's an Irish thing. Kind of like Irish Alzheimer's where you forget everything but the grudges.

Anyway, I was a kid and everytime we went to a wedding my grandmother would pinch my cheek and say, "You're next!"

I complained to my dad who pretty much said, "Whaddya gonna do?" I walked off.

A couple of months some great aunt passed and then it was my turn. I pinched my grandmother on the cheek and said, "You're next!"

Of course I did catch hell for it but my grandmother never did it to me again so it was well worth it.

There is nothing more satisfying than being disciplined by a man that is having a very hard time keeping a straight face.

I did NOT join the army so YOU could use MY service

to further YOUR agenda.

Every single one of us served for our own reasons which is really nobody elses business but the individual veteran's. Every single one of us stood up and signed our John Hancock on the paper when we enlisted. That means we are capable of speaking up for ourselves.

You either have a DD214 or you don't. It's that simple.

The annual social media brawl regarding fireworks is still in full swing and the usual gang of culprits always seems to want to drag veterans into the fray when most of us do not want to be a part of it.

When the annual fireworks fray begins one of the first things Karen does is to drag veterans with PTSD into it to use as her shield to further her cause. It's one of those things that is similar to the too often played race card. (The race card lost credibility a long time ago from being overplayed.)

What is a veteran, anyway? I posted that one a while back and if you want you can read that one, too. Just click on the link. A veteran is simply a person at one time in their lives signed a check payable to the government payable up to and including their lives. Most of us never went into direct combat as it generally takes about 8 or 10 people to service one guy in the field.

While we are at it, PTSD is often associated with combat. The truth is that it isn't restricted to combat veterans. It even isn't restricted to veterans at all. There are many non-veterans out there with the disorder in one form or another. But I digress.

The fact is this veteran and many like me do not like our service dragged into things to help you with your agenda that in many cases we do not agree with.

It was interesting to note that poor Karen found out that not every veteran with or without PTSD agree with her. A couple of people posted that they have the disorder and love fireworks. Surprise!

Another person posted his family history of those that had served. The list was quite impressive, actually. When I asked him if he, personally, had a DD-214 the silence became deafening.

An awful lot of us vets do not like being dragged into the middle of things so some middle aged suburban woman can hold us up like a circus animal to reinforce her personal agenda. I didn't serve for that reason and I'm sure many if not most of us didn't, either. We all served for our own reasons. For the most part one of the reasons was not so that we could help someone reinforce their agenda.

Actually I wish people would stop hiding behind a lot of other things, too. With fireworks people hide behind children, veterans, animals and other things. 

If people would just stand up and say "I don't like fireworks" I'd actually respect them. It would show they have some character and integrity.

Where we are today probably goes all he way back to the so-called Greatest Generation

and what made me think of it was that I was thinking about the time in school I was asked 'Did you bring enough gum for everybody?"

Actually I had a whole pocketful of gum and started handing it out. I got an hour after school for that one.

Later another teacher asked me that and I asked him if he was some kind of communist or something. He was a pretty decent guy because although he gave me a detention it was just for a minute while he told me he was not a commie and thanked me for reminding him. I think I managed to catch the bus home.

Still, the signs of things headed in the direction we are headed were showing but I was too young to realize it. There was an English and an art teacher that were pretty much anti RKBA and other signs popping up if I had been smart enough to see it.

Of course I had my share of idiot naive young schoolteacher types as well as a slew of WW2 veterans. For the most part the WW2 guys were Old School American conservative types but there were one or two exceptions here. Still, oddly enough, as conservative as they were, most did think FDR was a great president. The general attitude about that was, "Hey! The country was on its ass. He had to do something." Yeah. Like sign the NFA. Right.

I remember the Gun Control Act of '68 and that was done entirely by the Greatest Generation.  LBJ asked for a national firearm  registration.

I mention much of the gun control business because gun control leading to total disarmament has always been the first step a tyrant will take to enslave a people.

Still, it goes a lot further back than the Boomer generation. 

I saw it myself firsthand.

Seeing it's Independence day I'm going to check in on Roe vs Wade.

Ok, this is a Constitutional issue here and a Constitutional issue ONLY. It actually has nothing whatsoever with abortion, the beginning of life, the morality of abortion or 'women's rights' whatsoever

If you believe life begins at conception I don't want to hear about it. If you believe on abortion on demand, I don't want to hear about it. If you believe in 'You rape 'em, we scrape 'em, no fetus can beat us' I don't care. Save if for someone else. Men having a say in it? Nope. Save it for someone else. I do NOT want to go there.

This is about the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution ONLY.

I am NOT a Republican. I am a true Old School libertarian and a hard nosed Constitutionalist  I ALWAYS err of the side of liberty.

Roe vs Wade was a case of SCOTUS overstepping their boundry to begin with. They never should have touched the case in 1973  because abortion is not even mentioned in the Constitution. Instead they, in violation of the very document they were supposed to uphold and defend, they decided to hear the case and ruled on it.

If you want to figure this out it's really quite easy. Open 'The Directions' and go to the Bill of Rights paying close attention to Amendment 9 and a much closer attention to Amendment 10. 

9th Amendment: The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people. 

10th Amendment:  The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.

Based on the fact that SCOTUS was ruling on something that is not even mentioned in the Constitution, back in 1973 they were overstepping their bounds. The recent decision put the issue back where it belongs, in the hands of the States and if no laws forbidding abortion are enacted in a particular state, then it becomes up to the individual to decide.

From what I can see, good call on the part of SCOTUS. It's a 5 to 4 decision that leads me to believe that 4 of our justices were good with ignoring States Rights.

For those of you that want to get involved either way, you do so at a state level. The feds have no say in the matter.

TL;DR  as hey should have, SCOTUS threw it back to where it belongs. It is now a state issue. If the state doesn't outlaw it then it becomes and individual choice.

So it is the 4th of July. Did you know they have one in England?

Over the years I have asked a few Brits "Do you guys have a 4th of July in England?"

Almost all  of them look at me like I have three heads and say, "Of course we do!"


One wag from the UK had a pretty good sense of humor. He told me on UK calendars that there is a 3rd of July, a 5th of July and an empty white square between them.

Ask the police!

One of the things I see fairly regularly when someone asks a question is the suggstion 'Ask the police.'

Someone asked the Nextdoor board when such and such a gift card was going to expire and it didn't take long for some woman to say, "Ask the police."

It happens a lot.

How is are policemen supposed to know how long a such and such gift card is good for?

A lot of people use the police department as a catch-all for anything they don't know the answer to and go into shock when a policeman doesn't know something like what the population of Kalamazoo was in 1912.

Now that I mentioned it, what was the population of Kalamazoo in 1912?

Google> Kalamazoo >Wikipedia> 1910 population 39437 and 1920 population>48487

48487-39427=9060/10=906x2=1812+39437=41249 so about 40249 which sounds about right. Close enough.

Good to know. It saves me from having to call the police to find out.

A lot of people do not understand the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.


Some are screaming to repeal the Second Amendment. They don't even understand it or any of our other rights.

Our rights are God given. They are himan rights that apply to everyone.

We do NOT get our rights from the Constitution. We get them from God. If you don't believe in him, fine. You get them simply for being born.

The Bill of Rights is nothing more or less than a promise made by the government not to take our basic human rights away from us.

If the Second Amendment gets repealed we still have a right to keep and bear arms for our collective and personal defense.

It really is that simple.

For some it's a scary concept. They look to someone else (in this case government) for protection. What really scares them is when I ask them who is going to protect them from government.

Of nuns, Nazis and German shepherds.


What about nuns, Nazis and German shepherds? Is this guy sick?

The sick part is often open for argument. Ask the kid I met many years ago on a ride to the boat for crew change. There were 8 of us in a van. Seven seagoing guys and the driver and we were headed to New York running up the NJ Turnpike. 

I was preoccupied and looking out the window on the passengers side. He was on the driver's side and apparently some hot babe of some sort passed us and he got an eyeful. "I like busty blondes," he said. How about you?"

In a bored tone I answered, "Nuns, Nazis, and German shepherds. They got this pretty good website I'll let you check it out when we get to the boat."

The kid blushed and said nothing but I caught the skipper riding shotgun out of the corner of my eye turn and look at me with a smirk. He turned back and shook his head. He was probably thinking 'What website?' The ship's laptop doesn't allow much of anything but business related stuff and emails. 

Later that day when we were on board the skipper looked at me and said, "Nuns, Nazis and German shepherds, huh? That was a pretty good one. You have the kid believing we're all a bunch of perverts!"

"Aren't we?"I returned.

"Wel l l l l, to a point I guess we are but that's different," he replied. "Keep 'em guessing, huh?"

"Pretty much. Why not?" I answered. The skipper grinned.

The following day the kid saw me and simply said to me, "You're an a$$hole!" I laughed like hell. He had figured it out.
