I would NOT split it up evenly. I would do it STRICTLY by merit based on educational excellence.
The top ten states would get 4% each
The top second place states would get 3% each
The middle 10 states would get 2% each
The 10 states in 4th place would get 1% each
The bottom 10 states would get nothing.
Reinforce success and create serious competition. The parents of the lesser states would pressure the school committees to shape up and get some of that federal money. The competition would raise our national educational level and I'd bet that inside of a decade or two we'd be back to number one worldwide.
When you reinforce success and penalize failure things change and change fast.
Nice idea, but you are missing the point. Part of the appeal of getting rid of the DoE, is that the money will no longer be collected by the federal government, and filtered through the bureaucracy before giving some of it back to the states.
ReplyDeleteYou want more school funding? It should be directly related to local and state tax rates. Let's see how important we consider the football program now, if we have to pay for every dime of it.
Don't get me started on high school football.
