Solstice. A day late.

I wrote this yesterday so it's a day late and a dollar short.

Today marks the Solstice which means that at 2242 Eastern the sun will touch the Tropic of Cancer, 23.3 North of the Equator, marking the beginning of summer.

The spring has been chilly and wet but it sure looks like summer is going to come charging in like gangbusters. We're going to have a real heat wave to start summer off with.

    Hey, I will admit, I know nothing that how to spell, or what I see in movies, or 'uncles' growing up, about this, soon to be way more appreciated, form of communication!!
    Can anyone give me a 'CHECKLIST' of 'to do's' in finding, choosing & buying a radio for my Family (some in other states, & myself, in Michigan (too close to Selfridge Air base - a PURPLE Base ( it is Home to ALL our Defense aircraft , hence a target)!
    So, what are my 1st steps, what do I shop for
    (specifically). I just want to be prepared & able to stay in touch with Loved Ones in the event of a 'loss of our electronic communications, vehicles & way of living without electricity whatsoever!!
