Well, the Amazing Snow Storm has arrived.

It's snowing and coming down straight. As of yet there's no drifting and unless the wind picks up I won't have much to do other than keep an eye on things.

We're going to get a pretty good dallop of snow at this rate.

This may be the day I have to dig out my work boots and put them on for the first time since I retired. That'll suck. I've managed to get by with flip flops and Sperry Topsiders and no socks on very rare occasions I'll wear sneakers. I get by with a series of workarounds. . For example I preheat my pickup as needed.

Oh, well. Into every life some rain must fall. (Mainly on weekends and holidays)

We've got about 8ish inches now and my neighbor just made my driveway operational with the snowblower I gave him a few years back with the deal he keeps my driveway operational.

He hasn't had to use it in a few seasons and we both spent a big part of the day getting it running again. He had run it out of fuel the last time he used it but maybe forgot to drain the bowl because it was crudded up. We played hell getting it running and

By operational I mean I have a place to park and enough room so if I pull up another car can slip in behind me. It's only snow and a short lived inconvenience. It's not concrete that will set up and be there forever. Besides over use I'll manage to flatten out the rest of the driveway in pretty short order.

A place to park and a path to the garage door which I seldom use in the winter and I'm good to go. Keep it simple. The stairs are about 5-6 feet wide and I will later shovel a 2-2.5 foot wide path that's more than adequate.

I just called a woman I know and asked her if she needed anything from Giant Eagle and got a pretty good ear beating about how the roads are impassable and so on and so forth. I waited until she talked herself out and told her she still does need something from GE because I'm not going out in this slop. She has a problem with sarcasm.

However over the years I have driven to work in slop like this because work is sacred. If I was still working and it was the day before crew change I would be on the PA turnpike following plows and breaking trail. Now that I'm retired the need is no longer there. I'll just wait this one out.

The weather reports say this is going to stop around 0300. I'll play this by ear. I have no plans of staying up all night.

1830 update. Snow was scheduled to stop at 2000 but it's just quit a while ago. Everything's fine.

The only thing I felt I had to keep an eye on are the vent and exhausts for the furnace and the hot water heater. They rise up about 2 feet above grade and if they get covered I'd lose heat and/or hot water.

The Township has done a good job and I should send them compliments. Currently the road outside is 'emergency passable' and by the morning it should be clear.

Emergency passable means if you have some kind of serious business you can take care of it while exercising caution. I bet 87% of the accidents in this kind of weather are not people going to work or with some kind of serious business. They are generally idiots that ran out of Fritos and think that constitutes an emergency.

2100. Show's over. Off to bed.
