I am leaving this one open for now

to see what comes of it.

I just saw where the so-called bump stock ban is taking place and from what little I have read it sounds like shaky ground to me from a Constitutional standpoint.

I see no compensation being given to those that turn in what is simply private property. The government is simply telling owners to cough up something and the truth is that without compensation it is nothing more or less than tyranny.

A government powerful enough to do that is powerful enough to simply take people's 401Ks, homes or anything else. That's just plain wrong.

The ban itself is a separate issue. I'm not going to get into it here.

If the government wants to take private property they are supposed to pay due compensation. I suppose that would be something like MSRP, the retail price of about what was paid for it unless it had been modified. If it had been modified it would likely mean more.

Let's look at, say a car. A stock vehicle would probably warrant the government paying the owner MSRP unless it was modified.

If the owner were to put another $5000 in it for use as a specific purpose then Uncle would likely be liable to pay MSRP plus the $5000 that was put into it.

Many match grade rifles start their life as a simple off the shelf piece and are modified with expensive barrels, stocks, triggers and so on. A $6 or 700 dollar rifle can easily wind up costing a shooter over $4000 when it's all over and done with. Giving him a mere $650 is simply wrong.

While a bump stock is a somewhat inexpensive piece of plastic, under $200,  the principle holds true. If government can get away with that then what's next?

It's either a case where the ruling gets repealed or the government stands up to the plate and pays these people the proper compensation.

Pay up or shut up.
