It's 0300 and you get up to pee and flick a switch and presto! Light appears so you don't have to stub your toe on something.
It's magic!
Your car runs rough so you take it to someplace. The car gets wheeled into a garage and you come back a few hours later and it runs like a new car.
It's magic!
Of course nobody thinks for a second that the reason the lights go on at 0300 is because some engineers that run the power grids are up all night monitoring things to make sure things are running smooth so you can pee at 0300 without stubbing your toe.
Some magic. It's called work.
