Damned few of them are still tradesmen.
Most of them became entrepreneurs decades ago.
The trade schools simply taught them craftsmanship and the basics of the trade and they ran with that and opened their own businesses.
Even back in the 60s the schools knew this was probably going to happen and in addition the the hands on trade itself they gave their students a number of basic business classes.
