The ritual. Sleeping with an orange cat.

If I didn't have the cat I suppose going to sleep would be a lot simpler.

Climb into bed, don the CPAP, light it off, pull up the covers and simply doze off.

But I do have an orange cat so the drill changes entirely. Kitty knows I am going to go to bed in about an hour so he jumps up on the bed and goes to sleep because cats sleep every chance they get just like they eat every chance they get. He always sleeps in the out of the way corner which should make it a snap to join him. When Kitty isn't eating or sleeping he's constantly trying to figure out how to get pets from me.

When he hears me come into the room he jumps off of the bed and onto the floor to wait for me to undress and as I get ready to climb into bed he jumps back on it to the spot where he is right smack dab in the middle of the way which is what orange cats do.

Orange cat do what orange cats do and people do what people do. It's really quite simple except one never knows what an orange cat is going to do next other than get in the way. That's a given.

So anyway, I put my butt on the side of the bed and make a 90 degree turn and slowly lower myself on top of him. He doesn't want to get squished so he moves to the inside where he gives me a dirty look.

Then I pull up the covers slowly and he does the 'I don't want to get caught under the covers dance' until the covers are in place and then he swats me in the face which is his way of demanding attention.

I roll over flat on my back and he climbs on top of me and lays down on my belly and chest and I give him several minutes of pets and attention as he purrs like a chain saw. He also licks my face which is important because I get kitty germs which is good for my immune system.

Then I pick him up and put him next to me on the inside of the bed, don the CPAP mask and reach over and give him a few more pets and roll over on my side facing away from him and turn on the CPAP.

The instant the pets stop he climbs over me and swats me on the face for more pets so I stuff him under the covers and he battles his way out and promptly swats me again. Back under the covers and he battles his way out again, give me a dirty look and climbs over me and curls up behind my knees and I go off to sleep.

Such is life with an orange cat and I suppose I would not want it any other way.
