Well, THAT just put the Cuban Missile Crisis in a whole new light.

I was aware that the secret deal that ended things involved the United States removing missiles from Turkey.

Then I got curious and wondered when we had installed missiles in Turkey. I found out that it was in 1961 which was during JFK's tenure.

That changed things.

JFK had missiles installed in Turkey. Nikita Khrushchev took exception to this and retaliated by setting up missiles in Cuba which IMO was certainly fair enough.

It was a simple case of the (then) Soviet Union putting the shoe on the other foot. Sauce for the goose, sauce for the gander. 

Looking back at it it sounds to me like the entire thing was the making of JFK.

What was he thinking when he put US missiles in Turkey back in 1961. 

The missiles in Turkey became a clear and present danger to the Soviets and they responded by doing the same thing to the United States.
