My first thought was that it sounded like a pretty good idea because the people that didn't need SNAP but are on it would turn their nose up and the people that truly needed it would simply be grateful to have something to eat.
Then I remember that back in the day the government used to give out food instead of EBT cards and food stamps. People that truly need it accepted it gratefully. I remember the legendary 'gubmint cheese' that made wonderful grilled cheese sandwiches and macaroni and cheese that I would occasionally run into in my travels. While the government food given out wasn't generally fresh, it included a lot of staples.
I would have no problem with that whatsoever.
The other thing I saw was during the shutdown some woman complaining that her baby daddy brought over a load of groceries instead of giving her cash. It was probably a wise idea. He wanted his kid fed instead of watching her getting her nails done on his nickel. I have always said that if women can afford nails, paintbrush eyelashes, expensive hair, and tattoos they can easily afford to feed themselves.
Speaking of makeup and cosmetics, some clown on Nextdoor tried to give shoplifters a pass because they were stealing 'much needed cosmetics' to attract men with.
I shot back with "Quick fix. Wait until the fleet's in and wander into the bar just before closing time and you'll get all the male attention you want."
Needless to say, about 2/3s of the women went into screech mode and started running thier keyboards. It was very entertaining to say the least. I felt the need to back down a bit.
"Well, maybe they can find a Waffle House next to a strip club and drop in there after the club closes."
Back to SNAP. If you can afford nails, hair, tattoos and paintbush eyelashed you don't need SNAP.
Great comment. I might add that anyone on welfare must have periodic drug tests, and if they test positive, no more gubmint freebies.
