A man stops being a man when he hits a lady is more like it.
Every single creature on God's Green Earth has a God given right to self-defense, period. They have a right to defend themselves against any threat regardless of the race, creed, color, sex, age, or natural/national origin of their attacker.
I don't care who you are. If you don't behave yourself and get smacked for it then that's just too damned bad.

As far as domestics go I am a firm believer in the Law of Three Retreats.
If the verbally attacked person leaves the area in a retreat and the attacker follows them and the attacked retreats twice again and the attacker keeps up the pursuit, after three retreats whatever happens to them is just too damned bad. That goes for everyone regardless of anything.
If the attacker keeps bringing the fight to the attacked the attacked has a right to stop the action by any method necessary.
