Ahh, yes. The 4th of July is in a couple of days

And as usual the Karens are screeching, moaning and bellyaching about the upcoming fireworks.

As usual they don't know how well they have it. Instead of fireworks which are basically harmless it could be artillery or mortar rounds walking their way up the street.

And as usual they are mentioning veterans that suffer from PTSD. I know a handful that are so afflicted and when the subject pops up, many of them said to me they enjoy the 4th. A few don't.

All of this is immaterial. This isn't about veterans or PTSD. It's about Karens using veterans (and other groups) to pursue their little agendas.

There are few draftees left, the youngest are in their 70s and the number is dwindling fast. Other then that, every single veteran has one thing in common.

Whether they were a hard charging Rambo out in the $hit, a stateside mechanic or a mild mannered payroll clerk, they shared one thing.

One day they put on their Big Boy Britches, stood before the Man and signed their John Hancock on the dotted line and gave the government and open check payable up to and including their lives.

Every one of them did so for their own reasons. Some were true patriots, some wanted educational opportunities, some were unemployed and others simply were bored and wanted a change in scenery. One guy I met wanted out of an inner city lifestyle and was working to get a solid trade, studying off duty. My guess is he is now a retired electrician living in suburbia. The reasons were, and still are endless.

I can say that damned few in any joined to give a bunch of middle class women something to use to further their little agendas.

Truth is the little Karens that drag veterans with PTSD into their little agenda don't give a diddly damn about veterans. They are simply using them. They are simply dragging them into the fray to further their agendas  and I find that highly offensive.

I know of not one single veteran of any service that had as any part of their reason for enlisting as giving middle class suburbanites someone to hold up as some sort of a freak show example to further their little agendas.

As I said earlier, and one point every veteran out there put on his Big Boy Britches and enlisted. Virtually all of us still have our Big Boy Britches hanging in a closet somewhere.

If we want we can take them out of the closet, put them on and speak for ourselves. We certainly don't need you to come along and tell everyone what we are supposedly thinking. Most likely you're wrong, anyway.

Stop putting words in the mouths of veterans. Personally I find it VERY offensive. So do any number of fellow veterans I have spoken with, including quite a few suffering from PTSD.

Veterans can speak for themselves. A lot of us don't need your help to express our likes and dislikes.

  1. Pic, I agree 100% I am one of the few Vietnam Vets still living, and I cannot do fireworks in person. I can watch them from afar, or on TV but up close, no way. I don't have a problem with the shooting sports or my neighbors setting off theirt noisemakers on the 4th. The Karens who bitch so much should crawl back into their holes and just keep their cackling loud mouths shut. Thanks so much for this column.
