An old rant

from the time Bush sent a bunch of aircraft carriers to do relief work after a Pacific rim earthquake.

Some clown commented that "Bush sent aircraft carriers to do relief work. What was he thinking? Is he trying to blow them up? The French sent a team of thirty doctors."

"Wow. Thirty whole doctors. Most likely washed up gynecologists from the whorehouses of Paris," I replied, loudly. "Do you even know how an aircraft carrier is manned? You don't or you would not have said such a patently and ignorant stupid thing."

"But what good is an aircraft carrier?" he shot back.

"But nothing. An aircraft carried contains over 5500 men and women trained in damage control, first aid and a lot of other subjects that could be handy to have in a natural disaster. That's every single person has these skills  because you don't graduate from boot camp without learning them. Each carrier has two separate hospitals onboard and the doctors and medical people there are all trained in treating traumatic injuries like what will probably be found ashore. They are nuclear and can stay on task indefinitely. They also have helicopters that can ferry food and patients back and forth. The cooks there routinely prepare over 16,500 meals a day and in an emergency can prepare, maybe even 5 times that. That's a lot of chow."

I continued, "There are generally US Marines on board that can be sent ashore to quell disturbances. In addition to this, the nuke plant can provide enough shore power to light up a small city on top of taking care of its own needs. They can cable power ashore. They can also fly people to better hospitals if need be. They can provide fresh water where there is none."

"We have thirteen of these vessels and your beloved France has none. President Bush wanted to send the best we have to those unfortunates so he detailed the job to the United States Navy. Now how does that compare to your 30 washed up French gynecologists?"

A number of people that heard my rant gave me a standing ovation. Some stood there embarrassed as I suppose I had knocked the wind out of the sails of the Bush haters.

As I was leaving I was stopped by somebody's mother that told me she was worried that her son opted for the Navy instead of college and told me she wasn't worried about his future anymore and was proud of him instead of worried about him. THAT  made it worth it.
