It wasn't given to me by a government to begin with. I have always had the right to own whatever tools I deem necessary to take care of myself. It is a basic human right.
What the Second Amendment does is recognize that right and says that the government can't take that right away from us.
I do not know where people seem to think that the government gave us any rights to begin with. Our basic rights are human rights and the Bill of Rights simply recognizes that.
