I just saw another one of those starving people in Africa collections

and the usual spiel about how where they live nothing grows so they're starving.

First let's look at the people asking for money. They're a relief organization and as such have a paid staff. It's in their interest not to solve the problem but to drag it on. If they solve the problem they will have to go into another line of work.

So the relief effort goes on and on and the people are still in pretty bad shape.

How about trying another tack?

Send them trucks and vans so they can move to somewhere they can grow their own food and once there give them a few basic, simple agricultural tools and a starter kit of chow and whatever to get them up and running.

On the other hand, the relief organization wouldn't be able to collect money anymore for that cause, now, will they?
