A day of fixing stuff.

I have a spare room that is used to store some of the wife's stuff and she wants to keep the cat out which I understand.

Of course the simple answer is to keep the door closed but that can create more headaches than it solves, especially when one turns off the heat in the room. Things get musty fast and if let go it doesn't take a whole lot of time before paint peels and plaster starts to get moldy and even come apart.

Houses are made to be lived in and the worst thing you can do to one is unoccupy it. They need moving air to stay healthy. It doesn't take much to keep the air moving. Our normal walking around creates more than enough moving air. I suppose even the wanderings of a house cat or two will do this. You don't need powerful fans in every room.

Actually I was thinking of putting in a small fan, maybe one powered by a USB charger. Either that or a computer fan. Neither of which use much energy. I might even go with a simple solar powered one.

Anyway, today's project is to reopen the heating and return ducts and build and install a screen door of 1/2 inch hardware cloth. It'll let the room breathe and will keep the cat out. It may not look like something out of House Beautiful but it ought to work.
