I live by few rules but there are a couple.

When visiting a veterans grave it's nice to leave a penny on the headstone. It means you visited.

A nickel means you trained with him, a dime means you fought alongside him and a quarter means you were there when he was killed in action.

Do it right! If you don't have the proper coin then leave NOTHING.

I hate the kind of idiot that says, "Well I just had..." and leaves the wrong coin. If you can't do it right, simply don't do it.

There's no shame in doing nothing but you're an asshole if you do it wrong.

  1. If you don't have the correct coin why not do what the Jewish people do. They put a stone on the headstone so people know the grave was visited. So is everyone an asshole if they do anything wrong? Are you perfect? Hmmm

  2. Nobody is perfect. A stone is fine. It at least indicates someone visited.

Still, if you're going to go the coin route please try and do it right.

Fact is we don't do this for the dead. We do it for the living. The grave in question is visited by his widow and three orphans. Atleast they got to know someone cares.
