One of them is the grave of PFC Desmond Doss which I believe in in Tennesee.
The other one is of Tadamichi Kuribayashi which is somewhere unknown on the island of Iwo Jima, now renamed as Iwo To.
Doss for his raw courage and holding to his beliefs as a contiontious objector and Kuribayashi for sucking it in, being a good soldier and doing what he had to do.
Google both of them and read up on them and both of them were very different.
Interesing men.
Kuribayashi spent three years in the States as an exchange officer and actually liked Americans. He thought that the United States was the last country Japan should fight but when ordered to defend Iwo Jima he did as best he could. It was the first time the Marines suffered more casualties than they dished out.
The movie Hacksaw Ridge was based on Doss at Okinawa. Mel Gibson, read the entire story on Doss and thought it was way too over the top for the public to believe because he left out the fact that Doss served in combat in both the Phillipines and Guam before he sent into the inferno of Okinawa. He was decorated in both places with Bronze Stars with a V before being awarded the MOH for actions in Okinawa.
