People often ask for too much out of things.

The other night radio propagation in my area last night just plain sucked. I had a terrible noise floor and only strong signals could get through.

I mentioned this to someone and they said ham radio was unreliable and as an extension it was no good.

Of course the usefulness of it is that it works when nothing else does because it needs no infrastructure. 

People tend to put unrealistic demands on things.
