I was reading where a reservist was called up for almost immediate deployment and when he told everyone at work one wide-eyed woman asked him "Why don't you just tell them you have a good job and a nice family and that you're not interested in going?"
Probably the best answer you can give in that case is simply "Because you're stupid." and leave it at that.
No matter how you explain it to a person like that they are not going to comprehend things. You can explain that you will be jailed or even shot if you fail to show up and after you are through explaining how the system works you will likely be treated to something along the lines of this.
"Well I still don't understand how the army can just take you away from your nice family and job anytime they want to."
You can't fix stupid and even attempting to is a waste of time and effort.
